Social Studies News Week of: Mar. 2

Assignments Due This Week:

Mon--Chapter 7 Section 3 Study Guide--we started in class on Friday and it will be due in class on Monday.

Thurs--Our Julius Caesar Trial Simulation will take place today.  Students scripts & Jury Presentations are both due today.  We'll be working on finishing them up in class on Monday and Tuesday.

Science News Week of Feb 23-27

This Week in Science:

This week we studied soil and got to do many labs exploring parts of soil. We also saw some great growth in our Wisconsin Fast Plants that we planted last week.

Assignments Due this week:

  • We completed a summary and posted comments about an article we read (all done in class)
  • Graph and Conclusion from Percolation Rate Lab-started in class on Friday, finish Monday.
Next Week in Science:
 
Next week we will be Pollinating our Fast Plants to help them grow beautiful flowers. We will finish up exploring soil and start learning more about seed plants.

Assignments Due next week:
  • Graph and Conclusion from Percolation Rate Lab-Due Monday
  • Article Summary worksheet (Honey Bee article)-Due in class on Wednesday -I will grade whatever they have done at the end of class that day.

Social Studies News Week of 2/23

This week we're starting a project related to our Ancient Rome Unit.  Each student will have a role in our Julius Caesar Trial Simulation Project. We'll be introducing this unit and starting research on Monday.  We'll also be working on this project on Tues., Wed. and Thurs.  There won't be any new assignments this week.  In addition to work on the project, we'll be watching a video on Caesar and going over an assignment from last week.

Daily Homework:  Read nightly (monthly one pager book, quarterly novel, or other book if done with the previous two options)

Monday:  Small group discussion on chapters 15-17 (done in class).  Read Lightning Thief ch.19 and/or Feb. book

Tuesday:  February one pager (in class).  Read Lightning Thief ch. 20 

Wednesday:  Large group discussion on Lightning Thief ch. 18-20 with student-generated questions, Character analysis in small groups (done in class).  Read Lightning Thief ch. 21

Thursday:  Badger exam practice performance task (done in class). Read Lightning Thief ch. 22


Friday:  Practice performance task- writing component, discuss chapters 21-22 (done in class).  Start on March book.

Math News Week of February 23-27

This Week in Math:

In math this week, we will be starting our blueprint projects. Students will begin by designing a blueprint on a piece of graph paper. Once the graph paper blueprint is finished, measured, and labeled, students will then enlarge their blueprint (to scale) onto a piece of large poster board. This week we will be focusing on the graph paper blueprint, which will be due Monday, March 2!

This week in Science:

This week we started our unit on Plants. We planted our own Wisconsin Fast Plants and will be watching them grow over the next month.

Science News Week of Feb 9-13

This Week in Science

This week we learned about sound waves and made lots of noise!! Today, we picked two questions out of five to answer and explain our new knowledge of sound waves.

Assignments Due this week:

  • Sound vs. Light venn diagram (to use on sound assessment)-was Due Friday 2/13
  • Sound Assessment questions (2)- done in class on Friday 2/13
Next week in Science:

Next week we will be starting our Plants unit. We will get to grow our own Wisconsin Fast Plants throughout the unit and learn all about plants. Next week we will focus on Soil and getting our Fast plants started. Students will receive a Plants Journal on Tuesday, which will contain most of the labs and activities for this unit.

Assignments Due next week:
  • We will be observing and measuring our Fast plants every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and writing/drawing in our Plant Journals. 
  • Observing Soil lab drawing and conclusion-Due Thursday

Social Studies Week of 2/16

In Social Studies this week, we're starting our Rome Unit.  Students will get their Greece Unit tests back on Monday (scores are in the portal already.)  The following assignments will be due this week:

Mon--Ch. 7 Sec. 1 (we started this on Fri. 2/13 and will finish it in class on Monday.)  It will be attached in students' SS notebooks--if they don't get it finished, it will need to be completed for homework.)

Wed.--Ch. 7 Sec. 2 Assign. will also be an in class assignment.

Thurs.--Rome Google Map Assign. will be worked on in class.  Any of the 3 assignments that a student doesn't finish in class, should be completed for homework.

Math Update Week of February 9-13

One quick update to the previous math post! Students will also be starting a Coordinate City project on Tuesday. Class time will be given on Tuesday and Wednesday to work on this project. If students don't complete the activity during class, the project will be due Monday, February 16th.

This week in class we will read a variety of Greek myths, learn vocabulary words, analyze an article, and begin reading The Lightning Thief.

Social Studies week of 2/2

This week in Social Studies we'll be wrapping up our Ancient Greek unit.  We'll be learning more about Alexander the Great and have an assignment on that (Ch. 6 Sec. 5) due on Wednesday.  We'll be working on it in class on Tues. 2/3.

We'll also have a 1 page paper due on Friday about Alexander the Great.  Students will be working on this in class on 2/4 and 2/5.  Students will have a sheet attached into their social studies notebook detailing the assignment.

We're tentatively scheduled to have our Greek unit test next Tuesday.
