Math News Week of February 29th

It's all about area and perimeter this week in 6th grade math! After learning about circumference on Monday, we will then dive into finding the area of circles, perimeter of composite figures, as well as review what we learned last week about area of parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids. Science News- Week of Feb. 29th

The students are working hard on researching and learning about different types of alternative fuels for vehicles. They will share their presentations this week, and we will begin our Chemistry Unit.

Social Studies News: Week of Feb. 29th

This week in Social Studies we'll be starting projects related to our new unit, Ancient Egypt.  Students will choose a topic related to Egypt in Ancient times, research their topic, and write a script in which they'll role play "interviewing" a character directly out of Ancient Egypt.  We'll be working on this Tues, Wed and Thurs.

I'll also be collecting Social Studies notebooks on Monday to grade a couple of assignments (Nile River notes from Thurs.  & Ch. 3 Sec. 2 Assignment from Friday/Monday.)

We also had a test this past Wednesday.  Students got theirs back on Thursday (I re-collected them though so they don't have their test right now.)  Ask them how they did--and/or check their score on the Infinite Campus Portal.

Math News Week of February 22

This week we wrapped up our unit on angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals with some review on Monday and our Chapter 8 Test on Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday we will begin several lessons that are focused on area on perimeter of various shapes. Here is a list of homework assignments for the week!

Social Studies News Week of: Feb. 22nd

This week in Social Studies we'll be having our first unit test, on Wednesday.  Students will have a study guide that they'll get on Monday to help them focus their studying.  We'll spend time on Monday and Tuesday reviewing for the unit test.

Thursday and Friday will involve introducing our next unit--which will be on Ancient Egypt!  Students will learn all about mummies, pyramids, the importance of the Nile River and many other things.

Social Studies Notes Week(s) of: Feb. 8th & 15th

Over the course of this week and next week we'll be finishing up our first unit of the semester on The Beginnings of Human Society & Mesopotamia.  This week the assignments that are due will be as follows:

Mon--I collected Social Studies notebooks to grade students "Prehistory" chart, which is in their notebooks

Tue--Ch. 1 Sec. 3 Assignment due

Wed.--Ch. 2 Sec. 1 Assign. due

Thurs--1/2 - 1 page essay on 2 biography articles we read in class (1st Common Assessment--we'll do 3 of these types of essays this semester)

Next week we'll have the following assignments due:

Mon--Ch. 2 Sec. 2 & 3 Assign.  (we'll complete this in class on Fri & Mon.)

Thurs--Mesopotamian Poster Project will be due (project completed in small groups in class)

Fri--Ch. 2 Sec. 5 Assignment due

**This will set us up for our 1st unit test around the middle of the following week (Feb. 24th)**

Art -3rd quarter

Hello 3rd quarter art students and families!
We began the quarter learning and discovering a lot about the Elements and Principles of Design. We will continue this theme throughout the quarter (it's assessment standard 2!).

Now we are applying the Elements and Principles to mini-projects. Today, students finished drawing 3 forms with one light source using 3 different kinds of value. Tomorrow, we will move on a grid drawing; a method of drawing that helps keeps proportions accurate.

Math News Week of February 8th

This week is an exciting week in 6th grade math, as we will be starting our Blueprint Projects on Monday. In the project, students will be designing a building of their choice on grid paper. Accurately measuring all of the angles and wall lengths will be important, as we will then enlarge our buildings (to scale) onto poster board. Here is a look at some of the due dates and upcoming assignments. The blueprint due dates are flexible, so check back for updates as we start working on these!

ELA news week of Feb. 8

Nightly homework:  Students should be reading their February book as daily homework.  We will be adding mythology books to the mix next week when we start literature circles.  They will be able to do the reading for those books in class, so it is important for them to keep reading their February book at home!

Social Studies News: Week of 2/1

This week in Social Studies we will be finishing up our Map Skills review by discussing the different types of maps in our atlas and getting practice using our atlas to read a variety of different maps.  Then, we'll get into our 1st unit which is on the First Civilizations.  We'll have a few assignments that will be in class assignments this week.  They'll be attached into the student's Social Studies notebooks in the first section.  You will also see those assignments in the Infinite Campus Portal.
