Science News Week of March 23-27

This week in Science:

This week we took a quiz on the plant parts and their functions and started planning our plant projects. Students were able to choose however they wanted to present their project and then come up with the requirements and grading rubric for their project. They have been hard at work this week!

Assignments due this week:

  • Monocot/Dicot packet-worked on in class Due Tuesday
  • Quiz on Flower parts and functions-in class on Tuesday
  • Continuous work on project planning-in class all week
Next week in Science:

Next week we will be working hard on our projects. Please ask your students about their project choice and if they need any materials that can't be supplied by the school. I encourage students to use materials from school or things already at home rather than buying materials, but it is up to you and your student to decide what to use. 

Assignments Due next week:
  • Students will get four days in class to work on projects. I will be checking in with them on their progress. Some may need to do some work at home.

English Language Arts week of March 23-27

Monday:  Reading a Scope magazine article, then preparing a short argument speech from it. (done in class)

Tuesday:  One Pager day on March book- done in class. 

Wednesday: Presenting argument speeches we wrote on Monday. (done in class)

Thursday: Scope article and writing a short informative speech.  (done in class) 


Friday:  Presenting informative speeches. (done in class)

Science News Week of March 16-20

This week in Science:

This week we learned new ways to classify plants. We also learned all the parts of a plant and their functions.

Next week we will wrap up learning about plant parts and take a quiz. Then we will start work on our big plant unit project!

Math News Week of March 16-20

After taking our first geometry test on Monday (Chapter 8), we will begin a unit on area and perimeter. During the upcoming chapter, we will explore the areas and perimeters of parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, and circles.

Social Studies News Week of March 16th

This week we'll be preparing for our Rome Unit Test which will be on Wednesday.  Students will get a study guide on Monday to help them prepare.  Our next unit will be on the Middle Ages, which we'll introduce on Thursday.

We also have a 3 paragraph paper due on Julius Caesar this week.  Students needed to read 2 articles about Caesar online, fill out an organizer and then type their paper.  The paper and organizer should be attached and then turned in.  We started this process a bit on Thursday last week and students also had a good amount of time to work on this on Friday.  We're looking at having this due on Wednesday this week.

This week we learned about photosynthesis and did two labs (seed dissection and vascular and nonvascular plants). We also took a quiz on seeds and soil.

We wrapped up our discussions about soil and started learning about pollination while we pollinated our blossoming plants!

Math News Week of March 2-6

This Week in Math:
In math we have started to create our final blueprint projects on a piece of large poster board. Students are taking their measurements from their graph paper blueprint and enlarging everything to twice the size on their final project. Students have had much of Monday and Tuesday during class to work. The final blueprints will be due Friday, March 13th.
