Math News Week of April 27-May 1

After wrapping up our geometry units last week, we are moving on to statistics! Most of this week will be spent reviewing how to find different measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode, range).

Social Studies News Week of April 27th

We're introducing our new until this week on the religion of the Middle East.  2 assignments will be due this week: The Map of the Middle East will be completed in class on 4/27 & 4/28 and the Ch. 9 Sec. 1 assign. will be done on 4/28 & 4/29.  Both assignments should be attached into their Social Studies notebooks when they're done and graded.

Students will also be getting their Middle Ages tests returned to them on Monday, April 27th.  Grades for those tests are posted in the Campus Portal.

Science News Week of April 20-24

This week in Science:

This week we learned all the parts (or organelles) in the cell and what function they served. We took a quiz on Friday.

Assignments Due this week:

  • Build a cell-due Wednesday
  • Analogy-due Thursday
  • Quiz-in class on Friday
Next week in Science:

Next week we will begin our engineering unit! Students will be learning all about the Engineering Design Loop and how to think like an engineer. Throughout the unit, students will be working on a larger project step by step with a group to design their own toy car. The unit will have small assignments throughout for individual students to show what they are learning along with the large assignment produced by the whole group. 

Assignments due next week:
  • Weekly Article summary-due Wednesday (class time to work on Tuesday)
  • Reflection on Design activity-Due Friday (work time on Thursday)

Math News Week of April 20-24

We are finishing up our unit on volume this week in math. Our Chapter 10 Test will be this Friday. I strongly encourage students to take some time tonight and tomorrow night practicing volume problems from the lessons we have covered in Chapter 10!

Science News Week of April 13-17

This week in Science:

This week we presented our amazing Plant Unit projects that we worked so hard on last week! Please check the portal for grades and if your student is still missing their project.
Today we started learning about cells.

Assignments due this week:

  • Plant Unit Project-was due Tuesday April 14th (many still missing)
  • Plant Growth Summary-was due Wednesday April 15th (many still missing-check portal)
Next week in Science:

Next week we will focus on learning more about cells and the parts of a cell along with its functions.

Assignments due next week:
  • Analogy of a cell and cell part-Due Thursday April 23rd
  • Quiz on cell parts/functions-Friday April 24th

Social Studies News Week of April 20th

* Our Middle Ages Projects are due on Monday (April 20th.)  We'll spend a couple of days presenting those projects to the class.

* We're scheduled to have our Middle Ages test on Thursday--students will have a review sheet to bring home with them on Monday.

Math News Week of April 13-17

It will be a busy week this week in math! This week's focus is on finding the surface area and volume of different figures. After learning about surface areas of rectangular prisms, we will spend the rest of the week learning how to find the volume of different prisms. These can sometimes be challenging concepts. I encourage parents to help check over homework each night! There are also valuable resources and videos on the textbook website if a student is having questions after school!

Social Studies News Weeks of April 7th & April 13th

In Social Studies this week we had 3 assignments that we worked on connected to our Middle Ages Unit.
* Ch. 8 Sec. 3 assignment was completed in class on 4/8 & 4/9
* "Using Historical Maps Assign. was completed in class on 4/9 & 4/10
* Ch. 8 Sec. 4 assignment will be completed in class on 4/10 & 4/13

The week of April 13th, we'll be spending most of the week working on a Middle Ages Project that will be introduced on Monday (4/13.)

Science News Week of April 7-10

This week in Science:

This week was dedicated to working hard on our Plant unit projects. Students are coming up with some really cool ideas and ways to present their information.

Assignments Due this Week: 

  • Fast Plant Growth Summary-Worked on in class
  • Plant Project-Worked on in class all week
Next week in Science:

Next week we will finish up our projects and start presenting them to the class. When we finish presenting, we will start learning about plant and animal cells.

Math News Week of April 7-10

This week we will be finishing up our Chapter 9 unit on area and perimeter. Our Chapter 9 Test will be this Thursday. We will spend some time Tuesday and Wednesday reviewing for the test, but I encourage parents to help their child look over some of the Chapter 9 concepts prior to the test Thursday. On Friday we will be starting our next unit, Volume and Surface Area.
