Vocabulary Practice

I signed up for a free trial of a vocabulary program called Membean.  I use some of their resources when I teach vocabulary, but they also provide an individualized vocabulary training program for students.  This service has a fee, and in order to determine if it is worth considering for next year, I am having my current students participate in the free trial until March 3rd.  Students are able to log on any time and practice as much as they would like.  We will have limited opportunities to use it during class, but students may also work on it at home if they'd like.  Let me know if you have any questions!  Here is the log-on information:

ELA News Week of 1/22

Nightly homework expectation:  Read at least 20 min!  Ask your child what book they are reading for their next literary review!  Help them create a habit of reading every night at home!  Ask them to tell you about what they are reading! 

Monday: *Start of 3rd quarter*  literary element assessment
Tuesday: STAR test, prefix/root/suffix notes
Wednesday: Paired Text- read/analyze
Thursday: Paired Text on-demand writing prompt
Friday: Introduction to Greek Mythology, notes on main gods/goddesses

*Forensics begins on Tuesday this week.  All middle school students are encouraged to participate!  Forensics practices are held on Tuesdays-Thursdays after school and the season ends before spring break.  We have 2 meets during the season- March 1st here at Poynette and March 19th at Columbus.

We are nearing the end of our unit on functions, inequalities, and absolute value. This week we will be learning to solve one and two-step inequalities. Our Chapter 7 Test will be early in the week of January 22. Here are the upcoming assignments in math class.

January Book Orders Due Tuesday!


Scholastic Book Orders are Due this Tuesday, January 16th! 

You can order online  (class code P69TG) or with a check and the paper fliers.  Every order also helps our classroom earn free books!  There are many great books available this month.  Encourage your student's interest in reading by having high-interest books for them at home!

Esta semana en español (Week of 1/8)

Hello parents!

This week, 6th grade Spanish students are transitioning from the reading/listening portion of the human body unit to the speaking portion. Students will be doing a small reading assessment today (1/8) and will have another short assessment they will be working on in-class on Thursday (1/11). Please encourage your student to keep looking over their Spanish vocabulary in preparation for these assessments to end out our quarter together on a strong note!
