ELA News Week of Sept. 7-11

Hello and welcome to 6th grade ELA!  We are settling in to our new routines and getting started on our path to becoming better readers and writers.  I (Mrs. Rogness) will be creating the blog posts each week for ELA (English Language Arts), so if your student has Mr. Johnson, their timeline may vary slightly.

Science News Week of Sept. 7-10

Science is off to a great start! This week we are continuing to learn about the Metric System. We will also talk about the Scientific Process and will begin our first set of labs on variables. Below is an overview of science this week:

Tuesday: Importance of the Metric System Write-Up (in class), Metric conversion practice

Wednesday: Metric System open note quiz, Scientific Process notes/activities

Thursday: Introduction to Variables reading and summary (in class), Penny Lab

Friday: Introduction to Pendulum Lab

Math News Week of Sept. 7-10

We are off to a great start in 6th grade math! We now have our textbooks and are ready to get into our math workshop rotations on Tuesday. Our first chapter focuses on operations with decimals and exponents. Here is a look at the assignments we have coming up for the week.

Math News Week of September 1-4

Hello and welcome to sixth grade math! Here are a few of our plans and early assignments! Just a reminder, students should bring either a brown paper grocery bag OR a book cover for Friday so that we can cover our textbooks.

9/1: Getting to know each other activities and class routines and expectations

9/2: "Math is Everywhere" Tile (due on Tuesday, 9/8 for students who don't finish in class)

9/3: "Math is Everywhere" Tile work time, Construction Group Challenge

9/4: Distribute and cover textbooks, explore online textbook site

Science News Week of September 1-4

Welcome to 6th Grade Science! 

I am very excited to be joining the Poynette staff and cannot wait for a great school year! There will be more information coming home the first day regarding procedures, expectations, and grading.

Science News Week of May 18-22

This week in Science:

This week we analyzed our designs for our toy cars and then finally started building! The students are very creative and are building some awesome looking cars!

Assignments due this week:

• Reflection on Design analysis-worked on in class on Tuesday with group

Next week in Science:

Next week we will finish building, start running tests on our cars and collect data. Then we will start thinking about how to sell our car to the company executives!

Assignments due next week:

• Graphs and conclusions for 3 different tests-as a group, worked on in class

Social Studies News week of May 18 & May 26th

Week of May 18th:  We'll have 2 assignments due this week to wrap up our unit.  The 1st will be a Venn Diagram comparing & contrasting Islam with Judaism--their culture as well as their religion.  The 2nd will be Ch. 25 Sec. 3-Cause & Effect assignment.  The Venn Diagram will be due on Monday and the Cause & Effect assign. will be due on Wed.

Week of May 26th:  We'll be reviewing for our test both on Friday, May 22nd and Tuesday, May 26 in preparation for our unit test on Wed, 5/27th.  

Students will have a study guide for that unit test.
