Social Studies News Week of: Sept. 10th
Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies! This week in Social Studies we'll be wrapping up our Map Skills Review that we started last week and introducing our 1st Unit. We'll have a couple of assignments this week that students will be working on in class. They may need to finish them at home if they don't get them done in class. Each student received a textbook last week that they're able to use for the semester. All completed work will be attached into their 5-subject Social Studies notebooks, so you can ask to see them to see how they've done on their work. Please see the syllabus below as well as the Reporting Standards that we'll use in SS this year. You'll find my contact information on the syllabus if you ever have any questions!

*Paper copies of these items were handed out in class this week. Students also have access to them electronically via Google Classroom. Students will need to make a copy (click "file" then "make a copy") of the document in order to type in it- the original is shared with everyone, so I am not granting editing rights, or there will be 90 people trying to type on the same document! Students can type the metalog on a blank document or write it on a piece of paper. The document itself is simply the directions/examples.
I will also attach them here:

Here’s how:
Choose books with your child from the paper flyers (available in class) or online at: scholastic.com/bookclubs

Bonus: This month, you can pick a FREE Book (up to $5) when you place an online order of $25 or more!
As soon as your order is delivered to our classroom, I will send it home with your child.
Plus every order you place earns FREE Books for our class to share.

Week 1 Metalog
Students are encouraged to be reading a book of their choice that is at a level they are able to read successfully, but is also not below their ability. Students will not grow if they are not challenged, but they will not succeed if they are reading far above their ability level. It is also important for students to enjoy what they are reading, so if they are struggling to find a "good fit" book, they can see me or the librarians to help them with a selection!
