Math News Week of 11/13

We will be wrapping up our unit of fractions, decimals, and percents in math. Students should be able to covert numbers fluently between these three forms (ex: 0.06 = 6% = 3/50). Our Chapter 4 Test will be on Friday, November 17. Here are the upcoming assignments for math class!

Nightly homework:  read at least 20 minutes!

Monday:  Compound sentences, determining central ideas (book clubs)
Tuesday: Greek/Latin word part sort, rethinking initial ideas (book clubs)
Wednesday: Complex sentences, learning from stories embedded in nonfiction text (book clubs)
Thursday: MLA direct quotes and paraphrase
Friday: Fragments & run-ons, ideas have roots (book clubs)

Social Studies News Week of: Nov. 13th

This week in Social Studies we're wrapping up our unit on Ancient Greece.  Students have completed a project related to some aspect of Greek Culture and have spent time learning about all the different ways that the Ancient Greeks affected our culture. 

Our test will be on Wednesday, Nov. 15th.  Students will receive a study guide on Monday to help them focus their studying.  We will then be introducing our next unit on Thursday & Friday which will be Ancient Rome. 

Please continue to check the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus to monitor grades & missing assignments. 

November Scholastic Book Order

Attention Parents:  The deadline for the November book order is next Tuesday (11/14).  If you are interested in ordering books for your child, you can either use the paper forms (students can pick these up in my classroom) with a check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs (no cash, please!), OR order online:

Every order helps our class earn free books to add to our classroom library!  With the holidays right around the corner, if any parent would like to order books as a gift for your child, I can arrange to have the books available for you to pick up from the office without your child ever seeing them.  This is a great way to do some Christmas shopping!

Monday: No school for students
Tuesday:  Write small- analysis and revision
Wednesday:  Final draft of "write small" piece due, notes on 2nd quarter Greek/Latin word parts
Thursday: Non-fiction unit & book club introduction
Friday: Generating questions in nonfiction book club

Esta semana en español (Week of 11/6)

¡Hola!

This week students are switching their Applied Academics class for Second Quarter, which means I'll be getting a new batch of 6th graders in my Spanish class. I'm excited to get to know a new group of students and help them learn a little about the Spanish language and culture over the course of the next nine weeks!

This week, we will be working on getting to know each other, how our class functions, and we will be doing a mini-unit to review the Spanish alphabet and numbers in Spanish.
